Spotlight on the STR & WGU in Verve Online

Having covered speakeasies and elite clubs like Blue Frog and Hard Rock Café, they have now teamed up with the Women Graduates Union to raise money for the empowerment of women. This NGO provides not just the infrastructure required to facilitate the education of women but has also set up scholarships to help achieve that end. Performing along with Rang, a college band at Y. B. Chavan on the 23rd of February, this troupe is garnering as much support as it can with all proceeds making a beeline for a good cause. Easy listening never felt this good.

Something Relevant at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai February 2008

Okay fine, the above title may not be entirely true but adding a little credit to it – Something Relevant, the Jam Band that performed at Kala Ghoda Arts festival yesterday afternoon, mainly consists of some fine Parsi Dikaras.
Needless to say, these guys (Parsis + Non Parsis) completely rocked da house. And such was their impact that even my mum (a non-videshi music listener) sat thru most of their play time without any complaints.
In all honesty, I am not very fond of Jazz/Rock genre but give me Pop or R&B anytime and I am game. However this experience, I will admit made me realize how rigid in my music taste I had been all along...

December 2007 : The band has added a couple of guest musicians to our roster. These are open minded, talented individuals who add a special touch to STR's music. STR is developing a big-band sound with a variety of new and exciting textures.

Amar on tenor saxophone, Bb clarinet and baby saxophone brings in a traditional jazz mentality &
Sanaya on keyboards and organs brings in elaborate keyboard and synth textures. Vikas on percussion and electro grooves plays with his signature frenetic style to add energy to the bands' sound.

STR live at the Blue Frog : January 30th 2008

The band played at Bombay's newest, most hip music club. We were really excited about this; the club is simply amazing. Check out The Blue Frog Website

The entire show was taped ( thanks Ashaita!) and is streaming for your viewing pleasure :)

* STR LIVE @ Ravindra Natya Mandir May 11th 2007!

The auditorium started to fill up pretty soon with a lot of pretty women, dressed to kill. At least I wasn't complaining :). The backdrop for the evening's performance was a shot of Mumbai's Marine Drive beach area (during the Ganpati festival i assume) by one of Mumbai's well known amateur photographer Mr. Jehangir Sorabjee and he was kind enough to allow the organizers to use this image for the show. It will be on display in London at an upcoming art show. It looked more like the skyline of Singapore or Hong Kong and I was pleasantly surprised to know that it was shot in Mumbai. read more.

STR has begun organising its own festivals! At our self promoted shows, we have the creative freedom to do our thing just the way we want it. The electric atmosphere generates a creative buzz that the band latches onto; creating great music and delivering the goods in style...We love the people who come to listen to us, and we in turn feel responsible in guaranteeing them a blast!
