St Andrews Auditorium 28.12.07
Part of The Live Storms, organized by the Bombay Rock Association, this one was touted to be one of the bigger concerts in December. The show featured the bands The Works, Dream Out Loud, Lionnel Mascarenhas, all from Bombay and Junkyard Groove from Chennai. And of course..us.
We played last, from 10 to about 10:30. We almost didnt play as the deadline was supposed to be 10, but the Andrews' sound engineer Dennis and the organizers like us and proclaimed " What the fuck..the show must go on".
We were quite pissed off, the band was at its aggressive best. We do great shows when we're pissed off!
SETLIST : Harry Mole, Eddy on a Roll, Tomorrow, Whats Done is Done, Ants Marching(DMB)
GUESTS : Amar - Tenor Saxophone
The High Spirits Cafe 21.12.07
The High Spirits Cafe in Koregaon Park is a great place to play. Owned by our friend Khodu, this club has a relaxed vibe that is perfect for STR! We truly love playing in Pune, we especially enjoy the after-parties(thanks Sanaya)!
This show had 8 people on stage, somehow we all managed to fit comfortably. We were told by Puneites to carry warmies as "Pune gets reaaly cold during winter". It wasnt..they like to hype things up. Apparently the city had a cold wave that just passed. We were lucky it seems...ahem.
SETLIST: Wharf Me(Gomez), Harry Mole, Tomorrow, Watermelon Man(Herbie Hancock), Back on the Train(Phish), Ants Marching(DMB), Eddy on a Roll, Whats Done is Done, C-F Jam
GUESTS: Sanaya - Keyboards, Amar - Tenor Saxophone
Mocha 20.12.07
This show was for a few people only (read: not many came). However, it was one of the most intimate shows ever. Unfortunately, we were missing Stu and Ryan. Some great photographs!

Batti Bandh Campaign Marine Drive, 15.12.07
Some people we know decided to do something about global warming and spread awareness in the city. So, they organized a campaign called 'Batti Bandh' (translated- 'Lights Off) that would ask people to shut off their electricity for an hour between 8:30 to 9:30 on December 15.
They asked us to play at Marine Drive..on the pavement. We COULDN'T refuse this opportunity to play on the road..its been a dream to play on the streets of our city. Stu was so excited that he got a double bass.

The First Brick Music Festival Cathedral School, 23.11.07
What a feeling it is to play at your high school! This show was particularly special for JJ and T. STR played their first show(unofficial) at Cathedral school way back in 2001.
There were 12 school bands before us, all under the age of 17 that included an all-girl band that belted out Avril Lavigne covers. We jammed with a rapper from the 9th grade called Sahir. He dedicated Chamillionaire's 'Hip Hop Police' to ' 9-C', his class. Amazing! Hear it in the C-F jam.
SETLIST : Tomorrow, If I Aint Got You(Alicia Keys), Sweet Home Alabama(Lynrd Skynrd), Harry Mole, Ants Marching(DMB), C-F Jam, Whats Done is Done
GUESTS : Sanaya - keyboard and Melodion

4/4 and more ver2.0 @ Ravindra Natya Mandir 11.05.07
The auditorium started to fill up pretty soon with a lot of pretty women, dressed to kill. At least I wasn't complaining :). The backdrop for the evening's performance was a shot of Mumbai's Marine Drive beach area (during the Ganpati festival i assume) by one of Mumbai's well known amateur photographer Mr. Jehangir Sorabjee and he was kind enough to allow the organizers to use this image for the show. It will be on display in London at an upcoming art show. It looked more like the skyline of Singapore or Hong Kong and I was pleasantly surprised to know that it was shot in Mumbai.
The event kicked off with the compere for the evening giving some information about the bands, the music that they were going to play and also on the history of the auditorium. The stage was set for a great evening of music.
First on stage was Junckt, a six-piece ensemble band. They are a regular on the Mumbai club circuit for a long time now and were performing for an exclusive audience for the first time. They started out with a pan flute and acoustic guitar piece, with the rest of the band joining them for the rest of their performance. They followed it up with a couple of Herbie Hancock pieces along with a host of their self compositions. They sounded quite tight, with the saxophone and trumpet providing a great brass sound. Their flute player was in top form throughout the evening and it was evident that he was having a great time performing. The performance lasted for 40 minutes. Perfect start!
One of Mumbai's most revered musician and music teacher is a gentleman called Mr. Mickey Correa, now well into his late 80s. Musicians who have studied under Mr. Correa look like the Who's-who of the Indian music scene. This platform was used to honor his contribution to music and the standing ovation Mr. Correa received when he walked onto the stage was richly deserved. Here's to his health!
Next to come up on stage was Imaad. Imaad has illustrious parents in the form of actors Nasseruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak. He looks very much offbeat with his almost afro hairdo, geeky glasses and grungy clothes, almost like a post-modern Neil Young (heh.. i just made that up). He performed 4 of his original solo compositions with his guitar and harmonica for accompaniment. Very impressive I must say. Imaad is a good songwriter and what he lacks in vocal quality, he makes it up for with his lyrics. Thin and gawky that he is, he looks a little uncomfortable up on stage, but give him his guitar and a microphone and he can mesmerize you with his Bob-Dylanesque songs. Absolutely no pretensions. Just some great songwriting
After Imaad's performance, it was time for a 15 minute break, with most of the audience using the break to grab a quick bite. Sharan and me were too busy checking out the women :)
The last performance and the main act was by Something Relevant. They have recently come out with their album, which is available on their website. Their set consisted of a lot of original numbers and a couple of jazz covers. Their music can be best described as long extended Jam sessions with influences ranging from jazz, folk, blues and good old rock-n-roll. They are a seasoned lot and it was evident from their tight sound and energy laden performance. Before their show, a page with just graphics were distributed amongst the audience. No effort was made to explain the pamphlet. It became evident only when they performed one of their originals and every graphic item on the page started to make sense, relating the images to the lyrics of the song. BRILLIANT! :) Nothing better than a little humor thrown in. Delectable solos on the saxophone, guitars and the piano/keyboards and you almost wanted to jump onto the stage and be part of the jam. If only...
The evening ended with the band performing an extended session of the by-now cult song “What's up?” by the 4 Non Blondes.
It was 10:45 PM in the evening by then and hunger and thirst took over and after saying adieu to the beautiful peoples around, I caught a cab and made a headway to Narimaan Point to catch up with my cousin and a common banker friend, who was still at her office, for a drink and some grub. These are the times I thank my luck that I didn't end up being a banker (No offense meant.. I completely trust them with my money yo!)
by trashead.
"I was so happy after the show, not because i was glad it was over; because I came"- Karan Mahajan.
"Each song was so different; it was unlike anything i've seen before. "- Rishabh Natarajan.

Unplugged at Henry Thams 25.4.07
We were invited to play at Tham's 'Chill-Out' night. It was a great show~ the mood was supposed to be 'chill', so we started out totally acoustic with tabla and really peaceful renditions of our regulation songs. Ryan was groovin' on stage and was in total melodic form. Luis on keys was solid, he held the whole thing together. A lot of people commented on the spontaniety of the performance, we had no clue how the show would unfold at the beginning but we managed to breeze through. The crowd started coming in at 12 or so, some people were dancing and one guy in particular was screaming his head off.
SETLIST HIGHLIGHTS : 'groovy dancing' came out really well, it was downtempo and edgy! We added a breakbeat tabla groove to 'tomorrow'. Aazin did an amazing version of his emotional song 'Dirty Floor'. We had a crazy jam on 'Whats Done' , which went from a polka version of the song into some bitchin' reggae.

The Dolours Republic Fiesta 26.01.07
Our Lady of Dolours is a church in Wadala. Lord knows how we got this gig, but as it turned out..a lot of people over there knew who we were. The soundguy had heard us at Campus Rock Idols a few years earlier. He recognized 'In the Kitchen'. After the show he comes up to us and says, "I thought you were the same kitchen song guys!".
It was fun playing in a carnival type atmosphere for mostly small children who had earlier participated in the singing competition. Some good talent there.
SETLIST : Come Together (The Beatles), Sweet Home Alabama (Lynrd Skynrd), Bats in the Belfry (Dispatch), C-F Jam, In the Kitchen

STRJAM @ Razz Rhino 15.12.06
This was STR's attempt at pulling off a solo show at Mumbai's favourite hard rock and heavy metal venue, Razzberry Rhinocerous. We've played at many metal concerts and believe it or not, some metalheads actually like us.
We wanted crazy ideas, so we contacted Goldwin- the nicest and best production guy in town! He
brought in a mini trampoline that was kept right in front of the stage for people to use, a bunch of Helium balooons tied to Santa hats that just floated in mid air throughout the show, people just had to stand under them and the hats would land on their head. We jammed with Brad the clown, who juggled with the music. The feedback/signing giant sheet at the door was filled with good stuff !
Thanks to all who helped out :
Goldwin the Great, Manyu (abhimanyu@mac), Phlip, Utsav @ bra, Feroze, Dhaval @ bra
